D4: Overcoming the Barriers to Break the Silos Between Home Based, Residential & Foster Care Services

Presented by Rachael Fisher and Guene Kalal

Workshop Description

Breaking the Silos is an initiative to help us think about our work more like people experience it.  Families often have multiple providers who offer inconsistent advice or competing demands. We know our goal is to coordinate together for the best outcomes for families as they transition from one service stream to another. This session will discuss how we can effectively avoid a piecemeal approach that inadequately addresses needs and fails to produce the best outcomes across multiple domains. Together we will brainstorm ideas to foster partnerships that expand, strengthen, streamline, and integrate help for families with the most complex needs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Better understand the roles of community based, licensed child placing agencies, and residential treatment agencies staff.
  • Generate ideas on how staff from all service lines can identity and reduce barriers to improve the experience for youth involved with the child welfare system
  • Ideas to increase engagement of families throughout their involvement in the System
