Workshop Description

The system of homelessness services for families and youth is similar to, but distinct from, child and family welfare services. Understanding how that system works will help prepare you to provide the best assistance to families and youth who are experiencing homelessness. This workshop will discuss the primary challenges for youth and young adults navigating the homelessness response system and how organizations can assist them in getting the additional services they need.

Learning objectives:

  • Understand the definition and categories of youth and young adult homelessness and what they mean for eligibility into various types of assistance
  • Understand the theory and approach of homelessness diversion for youth and young adults facing homelessness
  • Understand primary challenges for youth and young adults navigating the homelessness response system

Presenter Bio:

Kelsie Stringham-Marquis is enthusiastic about finding new ways to collaborate, partner, and create systems-level change to support youth and young adults experiencing homelessness. She came to Outreach in 2021 after working in both direct service and research and evaluation roles. Kelsie feels incredibly grateful to work in a place that focuses on relationships and wellbeing of the whole person - physical, emotional, and spiritual. Kelsie has a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Spanish, and a MPA in nonprofit management. In her free time, she loves to garden and make art with her daughter.
