♦This session is appropriate for individuals in supervisory or executive leadership roles.

This workshop will help child welfare supervisors understand burnout and secondary traumatic stress, identify signs in themselves and staff, and explore strategies to address these challenges. Participants will learn effective supervision techniques to support staff well-being and build resilience. Additionally, the workshop will focus on fostering a positive team culture, emphasizing communication, respect, and support to enhance team dynamics and prevent burnout. Supervisors will leave with practical tools to promote staff and team wellness.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define burnout and secondary traumatic stress and understand the impact on performance and well-being in child welfare work.
  • Participants will be able to implement strategies in supervision that promote staff well-being, reduce the risk of burnout, and foster resilience
  • Participants will be able to identify key components of a healthy team culture and will be equipped with strategies to build and sustain these elements within their teams.

Presenter Bios:

Remi Kelsey, LSW is the Assistant Director for Home-Based Services in Region 13 at Firefly Children and Family Alliance. Remi previously worked as a home-based therapist, and has degrees in Psychology, Criminal Justice, and Social Work.

Nicole Ditto, LSW, is currently the Director of Home-Based Services for Region 14 at Firefly Children and Family Alliance. Nicole has a decade of experience working in child welfare across levels, including direct service, administration, and training/research.
