Indiana is experiencing an unprecedented number of youth that need intensive mental health services and have been deemed "high acuity". This workshop will focus on the correlation between these children and the substance use disorder epidemics that have plagued our State for the past two decades. The workshop will also engage participants in brainstorming solutions to better meet the needs of this specific population of youth.
Learning Objectives:
- Review Indiana data on the number of youths diagnosed with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS) in the past two decades.
- Review correlation of NAS and mental health diagnosis of youth that are deemed high acuity today.
- Engage in solutions focused brainstorming to better inform participants in developing programs that could meet the needs of high acuity youth.
Presenter Bio:
Katrina Norris is an LCSW and serves as the Executive Director of Indiana’s State Psychiatric Hospital Network within the Division of Mental Health and Addiction. In her role she oversees all six of Indiana’s state hospitals. For the past twenty years, Katrina has engaged in innovative program development and design as well as advocated for Hoosiers that struggle with mental health and addiction.
